The tiny puppy fled beneath the canal channel after being startled by a car and got stuck in the pitch-black tunnel. She was unable to move until a police officer came to assist her.
Officer Joe Brazil is always ready to help, and he didn't think twice about saving a helpless dog.
On May 2, 2016, Peggy Edwards posted her tale on Facebook, where it quickly gained popularity. We were all moved by the story because it was so heartfelt.
Her tale involved Joe, a policeman from Woonsocket, Rhode Island. It all began when a car scared off a cute but fearful Yorkshire terrier puppy.
And the dog immediately ran away and into a tunnel.
Peggy began sharing her story on Facebook, saying, "On April 30th, a little dog was running about free and was scared by a passing car. It collided with a tunnel through which a local creek runs. "She was stranded around 20-25 feet in and clinging to the edge.
She was reluctant to assist the small dog despite her instincts telling her to.
That's when she had an idea, but she was afraid she'd scare the poor dog, making it retreat deeper into the tunnel.
She called the Woonsocket Police Department right away, and she received help.
A short while later, Officer Joe Brazil showed up and was eager to help.
The brave Officer was eager to help as Peggy then described what had happened.
We're thrilled he was able to save the young girl and Peggy said, "He plunged in without a second hesitation and emerged with a very wet, scared small dog.
Before going through the tunnel to save the tiny dog, the kind Officer took off his shoes and socks.
The officer was able to be reached by WJAR NBC10, who reported, "As I came closer, I could see Cece just clinging to the side and just trembling.
The Officer took extra care not to scare the little dog further down the tunnel given how terrified she was.
The next thing he did was astounding!
Once he was close enough to the terrified dog, he let Cece follow his fingers a little further into the tunnel, and then he lifted her up!
Brazil told WJAR NBC10, "She seemed to know I was there to help. It almost seemed like she was saying thank you."
As seen in the photo, the adorable dog seems incredibly loving and appreciative of the attractive officer who saved her.
Cece was the name of this adorable dog, according to another interview with WJAR NBC10. After all, this dog wasn't a stray after all; she came from a lovely household.
Michelle Perez, Cece's owner, was thrilled that her dog had been located; according to her story, her mother-in-law had given her the adorable puppy, but the next day it escaped!
She is only five months old, Perez said in an interview. "I couldn't sleep. All I kept doing was driving around and contacting her."
Thanks to Peggy Edwards and the kind Officer Joe Brazil, Cece was saved from the terrifying tunnel and reunited with her owner. We are all relieved that Cece was saved and returned to her human!
